What does the first amendment do?

 

Gives you freedom of: 

 

• Speech - You can say what you want (within reason) and not get arrested.

• Religion - You can follow whatever religion you want. 

• Press - You can publish what you want in a newspaper, magazine, blog, etc. 

• Assembly - You can gather together and not get arrested. 

• Petition - If you don't like a law then you can protest it.
